Cooperation with the Iraqi Judiciary

Because of the nature of its mandate, UNITAD’s natural partner is the Iraqi Judiciary. UNITAD provides extensive support to the Iraqi Judiciary through:

1. Digitization in the courts of ISIL-related documents to help the Iraqi Judiciary draw on existing evidentiary basis and strengthen their engagement in case-building in line with international standards, as well as
2. Deepening the knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law among Iraqi judges, and
3. Joint case building in support of accountability proceedings before competent courts.
