UNITAD Psychosocial Experts Provide Training sessions for Yazda Organization MHPSS staff

As part of its support to Iraqi organizations working with victims and survivors of ISIL. UNITAD WPSU psychology team initiates a training series for Yazda Organization’s Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) staff.

The series aims to promote the capacities and work of national PSS professionals through delivery of a number of training modules that respond to the needs of the organization and the communities it serves, while remaining in line with international best practices and the ‘no-harm principle’.

 

Skills for Handling Reluctant Behavior - Tuesday 1st June 

Overview

The training session has been produced to provide valuable information to help detecting and understanding child reluctance as it might obstruct progress in the counselling process. This will enable participants to comprehend underlying reasons behind such behavior, to approach it and to overcome it.

Somatic Symptom Disorder Training - Tuesday 8th June 

Overview

This training has been designed to provide an overview and understanding of Somatic Symptom Disorder given its relevance and prevalence in the survivor population served by the Yazda MHPSS team. The objective is to increase understanding of clinical knowledge and skills relating to diagnostic criteria of Somatic Symptom Disorders (SSDs), with a specific focus on Conversion Disorders, approaches to psychological assessment and treatment.

Assessment and Management of Child Emotional Disorders - Tuesday 29nd June 

 

Overview

This module aims to develop knowledge of how to assess child emotional disorders, which aims to guide Yazda MHPSS team on which path to choose, and to provide indications of what they might encounter along the way. Psychological interventions to manage emotional disorders are presented in this module, including practical guidance to promote child well-being and functioning, psychoeducation, stress management, brief evidence based psychological intervention called Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
